<National Report>Sources close to NBA superstar LeBron James have begun reporting that James plans to announce his retirement from the NBA to focus on his burgeoning career as a rap artist. As speculation has risen regarding the star’s future as a free agent, many are now suggesting that his future will lie outside the league entirely.
Sources have reported that the Heat’s embarrassing 1-4 loss to the San Antonio Spurs in the NBA playoffs spurred James to consider retiring from the NBA. One source suggested that James was tired of being at the top of his game, yet dependent on teammates for success:
He’s just not having fun anymore, ya know? His teammates can’t keep up with him, but he can’t beat 5 other players all on his own. If there was a pro one-on-one or even a one-on-two league, maybe that would do it for him. Sometimes when you’re on the top and those around you can’t rise to your level, competing is no longer fun. Losing because of the failings of others is extremely frustrating to LeBron. With the hip hop game, you’re playing yourself. You can always push it further, and you aren’t dependant on teammates that might slow you down.
James’s current single ‘I Got Yachts, Watches, and Rings’ has been met with critical acclaim and provides a solid foundation for the basketball legend’s transition off the court and into the recording studio. In addition to his recent single, he has been featured in multiple recordings with rap legends 50 Cent, Jay-Z, and Kanye West. James’s first full length album is rumored to drop this fall.
While no official word has been announced from the LeBron camp, his agent has indicated that a “significant” announcement would be made following his return from a family vacation.
