Obama Dines With Kansas Waiter Who Received Anti-Gay Message And No Tip

Obama visits the Kansas waiter who received no tip and an anti-gay message

Carrabba’s Italian Grill where President Obama met with the waiter who received an anti-gay message and no tip.

Overland Park, Kansas — President Obama made a surprise visit to a Kansas restaurant where he spoke with a waiter who made national headlines last week for receiving an anti-gay message and no gratuity from a couple that he had waited on.

It all began last week when a man and a woman dined at Carrabba’s Italian Grill in Overland Park, Kansas. When the couple left the 20-year-old server returned to his table to find a derogatory message scrawled on the back of the receipt.

The note read:

Thank you for your service, it was excellent. That being said, we cannot in good conscience tip you, for your homosexual lifestyle is an affront to god. Q**ers do not share in the wealth of god, and you will not share in ours. We hope you will see the tip your f** choices made you lose out on, and plan accordingly. It is never too late for god’s love, but none shall be spared for f**s. May god have mercy on you.

Obama sat at a table in the waiter’s section along with two Muslim children he had brought from a Muslim Outreach Program started by the Obama family. The three each enjoyed hamburgers, fries and sodas. The president took time for photos and to promote Obamacare. Obama asked the waiter if he had signed up at healthcare.gov yet to which the waiter responded, “It didn’t work.” The president chuckled, “There has been a few hiccups with the Obamacare website but we are working on it night and day. It is extremely important that each and every young person in this country, gay or straight, receives affordable healthcare.”

Speaking further about the waiter, Obama told reporters, “This is what my son would look like, if he was African American and gay.”

Obama and the children finished their meal, shook hands with the waiter and then left a generous tip.

Since the event occurred last week, the local community has rallied its support behind the waiter. Friends have taken to social media to spread the word about what happened, and have vowed to go to the restaurant as a sign of support.

“It’s honestly despicable. I mean, it’s in my mind, no different than saying ‘sorry I’m not tipping you because you’re black or you’re a Jew’ or something like that,” a local resident told KMBC 9 News.

The waiter responded last week to the incident, saying: “The offers to help pay me back are much appreciated, but not at all needed. I’d prefer to let my work ethic and my service do the talking, nothing else.”

Responding to the report, the restaurant’s franchise company, Bloomin Brands, spoke out against such derogatory behavior.

“We do not tolerate discrimination — from either our employees or our guests. We embrace diversity and believe in treating everyone with respect,” it stated in an email.

Carrabba’s Italian Grill in Overland Park, Kansas is located at 106th Street and Metcalf Avenue. Carrabba’s said the company embraces diversity, and will not tolerate discrimination from employees or guests. The manager said they were not aware of Obama’s visit until he arrived at the restaurant.

A Muslim Outreach Program started by the Obama family, WTF?? Just when you think this president can’t stoop any lower

    • Petrichor Bharali says:

So sorry, but what is wrong with a Muslim Outreach Program? I can’t see how that could be considered “stooping” at all. I’m not Muslim myself, but I am scared by the rising tide of Islamophobia – it’s the anti-semitism of the 21st century, and we should all try to do something to fight it, taking President Obama’s example as a lead.

    • Jan L says:

Look it up! ” … there is no separate legislation to cover the Muslim Outreach Summits, it’s part of the AAPI EO and “The Muslim Outreach will cover Muslims that are part of the AAPI Community.”

Do a search on AAPI …

I thought the other lady was stupid, but I see there are a whole mess of people who believe everything they read. I guess that is why fox news is so popular.

  3. Rebecca Simons says:

Doesn’t Obama have anything better to do that coddle some gay waiter

    • Simonb says:

Yeah! I agree. He’s got plenty of others things to do, starting with spending 3 weeks chopping wood at his Texas ranch.

  4. Michelle says:

I don’t favor homosexuality, but that couple did not help the young man for God’s kingdom by calling gays and lesbians queer or fags. If you want to turn a person’s life around..those derogatory and hurtful words are NOT the way to go. God Himself said for us not to let garbage come out of our mouths and He would use no profanity whatsoever to change lives.

    • Nobody says:

“If you want to turn a person’s life around..”

Here’s a thought, worry about turning your own life around and leave the rest of us alone.

I don’t usually agree with the Pope on anything, but I like what I’ve read about the current Pope’s attitude toward gay people and judgement. It sort of sounds like “Judge not lest ye be judged” which I recall hearing a looooong time ago.

    • Rick Martin says:

OMG! I have seen the light! You have brought me to the Lord Jesus Christ! Your internet comment is more powerful than anything anyone has ever said to me. I can’t thank you enough for turning me straight. Lord knows I have struggled with Homosexual tendencies my whole life since he made me and your comment has turned that all around.

It is amazing the power of the WORD! God made me have these urges to sleep with men, then tells me that they are wrong and that I must fight them, and then when I give in to temptation his minions tell me that I am going to burn in hell for all eternity. But you have saved me from that damnation with your kind and gentle words. Thank you ever so much. I must run along now and find a female to mate with!

I am so very glad to see our president reaching out to his people through the Muslim Outreach Program. Our nation shall grow richer for these experiences. As a father I would not have approved of him taking the young ones around this type of person though. Perhaps the waiter will find Allah.
    Salaam

Another reason to not encourage Muslims to grow in this country. All we need is another group of backwards thinking people who have no idea what it’s like to be gay and only want to change us. I hope you hardline Christians and Muslims just destroy each other, which is what is going to happen because if all gay people say, “OK, we give up, we’re going to be straight and follow Jesus, then all the Muslims will still believe we won’t reach paradise. And if we follow Mohammed, all the Christians will say that we are still lost and still going to burn in hell forever. Both groups are so screwed up.

I just wish you all would someday realize that for whatever reason, genetics or something that happened really early in our lives, we’re gay and it’s not going to change. And we can’t change it. Just look at all of the other anomalies on Earth and realize that gay people are one of them, to be loved as they are and not to fit into your ideas of what is and what isn’t supposed to be.

    • Rick Martin says:

Praise Allah! Maybe Carrabas will start having draw your own Mohamed on their kids menus. But I always hate those crayons they give me. I always get off colors. Do you think it will be okay if I color your Prophet with Daffodil Yello?

  9. Rita Clark says:

Just grow up people and let others live their life. Only one person can judge and that is the Good Lord himself. Idol believe that the ones that are judging others on this earth are going to be judged in the same way they have judged others. Worry about what goes on at your home and sweep around your doors and clean out your closet. If you are busy doing that then maybe, you wonto have time to worry about what’s going on in others life. People judge because of someone being gay, skin color religion. Damn just stop!! Live your life and leave others alone.

    • Ross says:

The parable of the net (or dragnet) indicates that the church should be welcoming to all. Sorting out the good and the bad is not our job; we usurp God’s prerogative when we do so.

Same with the parable of the wheat and the tares (or weeds), which says that it is not our responsibility to rip out the weeds but we should let God do so at Judgement Day. In particular, we are told that the act of our ripping out the weeds will damage the wheat, which is growing beside it.

  10. Ryan Shane says:

Wow there is alot of hate on this post for gays, Islam, and our president. I have to agree the Muslim out reach is a great idea! i think Islamaphobia needs to be called what it really is racism. I for one was raised to not see color on a person. I judge people soley on their character, not what color their skin is what religion they practice, or who they go to bed with at night. Sadly it seems many were not raised the same way that I was. So people go out go forth treat your fellow man with kindness and dignity. Sadly I think many in these comments will never do that.

    • Michelle says:

Yeah..your precious islam is ruining this country! They are getting their own month! Where’s Jewish, Buddist, Christian or Hindu month????? Where’s European or German pride month?? Irish month????? These evil people are killing our people overseas!! I WILL NEVER TOLERATE THEM AND YOU CAN’T MAKE ME!

    • Mohammed PIG says:

are you an idiot? what race is Islam you moron? you better look up racism before you start embracing the religion of Satan. Your inbred parents raised you to be a sheep that believes anything. You are so ignorant you think there is a muslim outreach?? you probably suffer from “having-a-spine-ophobia”

  11. Ross says:

    [sarcasm]

A gay waiter? Who ever heard of such a thing? I certainly hope that the hundreds of restaurants at which I’ve eaten never had a gay waiter!

    [/sarcasm]

I imagine that there was some sort of “tell” which revealed his sexuality to these customers. A rainbow flag as part of his bling? A “Kiss me; I’m gay” button? Him talking incessantly about his boyfriend while waiting on them? Sometimes you have to be REALLY obvious to obliviots to get through their straight colored glasses.

  12. Jon says:

“You, therefore, have no excuse, you who pass judgement on someone else, for at whatever point you judge another, you are condemning YOURSELF, because you who pass judgment DO THE SAME THINGS” Romans 2:1

    • Jon says:

I forgot to mention this is for all those who like to judge especially those calling themselves “Spreading God’s Word”.
You might want to read verser 1-11, or maybe even the whole chapter.

  13. Holy crap, homophobic/hateful people, you are exactly what is wrong with this country! Everybody on here, please look into a mirror and repeat after me…”I am a gullible idiot”! Can’t you tell this story is made up, just like his other stories. People, please remove your heads from your rectums and do some homework you ignorant fools.

    • Mohammed PIG says:

      no such thing as homophobia,
thats a word queers made up, to combat the fact that throughout history homosexuals have been considered mentally diseased.. The term you need to use is “faggot disgust”, who’s afraid of a pansy? it would be great if the whole world was gay because then you gays wouldn’t exist anyhow. you seem to forget its the straight people that made it possible for you to even live your screwed up life

      • Nick says:

another ignorant idiot. what facts show that homosexuality is a mental disease? oh that’s right, there is none, religious nutjobs like you just make them up. Grow up. Homosexuality is a natural thing, possible in many animals. No matter how hard you try, you can’t eliminate it. But yes, homophobia is real. You are the a shining example of it.

  14. Ron says:

I am a firm believer that homosexuality is a sin and against all Christians however, leaving a note like this is not a Christian thing to do. A tip for their service is in order if their service was good along with a tract and not an anti homosexual tract but a message of Salvation.

This is a poor judgment call from an alleged Christian. We are to hate the sin, not the sinner. Does the party that left the not think they have done service to the Lord? I think not and question their motive.

Do not use the Lord to voice your own feelings. That is exactly what turns unbelievers off. I can’t believe that a true Christian would pull such a stupid stunt. Sounds like Satan at work.

    • Marney says:

      Racism is a choice
      Bigotry is a choice
Being gay is not a choice

      • Mohammed PIG says:

then why do girls talk about “turning a gay man”. Why is it some people are straight for years and have children, then turn gay? Being Gay is just like any mental illness such as pedophilia, necrophilia, nymphomania… only problem is you pansies try to make it seem like homophobia is a real thing. its not “homophobia” it’s “faggot disgust”

  15. Ron says:

This may be another scheme of Obama to turn us into hate mongers. It’s what anyone who knows this follower of Allah would do to bring shame on the Lord Jesus Christ. Think about it.
Obama is a tool of Satan.

  16. bess says:

    Stupid asses! Get a life!!

  17. ann says:

This is a joke…..right? Obama didn’t really go there, I hope. And he surely wouldn’t say “this could be my son if he was african american and gay”. That sounds ridiculous.

  18. trisha says:

The bottom line is that you would never want anyone to come to your job and be disrespectful to you at your work place. When you are clocked in at your place of business, it iisn’t about your personal life…it is work. We are providing a service, in which one should pay for…if you choose not to and make some excuse about personal prerogative, shame on you….and then you choose to take the time to vomit your personal homophobic remarks then may all your waiters be gay…and may your childeren come out of their closet publicly at church and announce that they have just taken a job as a server.
I would be careful eating out if I were them.

  19. gretchen says:

I wish I could put you all in a room so I could watch you go at.

  20. JoeThePimpernel says:

The anti-gay message/no tip thing never happened, but don’t let that prevent anybody from pretending like it did and that all non-fudgepackers are too blame.
