Sources Close To Lindsay Bottos Say These “Anonymous Messages” Were Created Solely By Bottos To Garner Pity From Other Tumblr Feminists
As the old adage goes, “Negative attention is better than no attention at all”, even if that means purposefully arranging a colossal lie in order to amass the attention you so fiercely crave.
Lindsay Bottos, the 21 year old “artist” who is wrapping up her senior year at the Maryland Institute College of Art generated quite a stir after she gathered up all the negative comments she supposedly received through her tumblr account and photoshopped them over pictures of herself looking wounded and morose. This “art project” quickly went viral, netting 85,000 notes and drawing 20,000 new followers, but now it’s been revealed that it was all a ruse, carefully orchestrated by Bottos herself to drum up the vast quantities of pity and attention that she is so gravely addicted to.
National Report was contacted by a source claiming to be very close to Lindsay Bottos. They told us the following:
“Lindsay is addicted to self-pity. It’s like heroin to her. All of her “art” kind of reflects that and as a result she was made fun of a lot in school. Her instructors have pandered to her constant state of self-inflicted dejection and basically created a monster. I think they just want to sleep with her because they know she’s easy.”
“During finals Lindsay spent more time taking selfies than she did actually developing a thesis so she scrambled at the last minute to come up with a concept. She ended up opening another tumblr account and sending herself a bunch of hate mail which she in turn used to create this project. It’s really sad how gullible people are on the internet.”
Her website is essentially a shrine to her addiction to self-pity masquerading as “art”. Whiny phrases knitted into scraps of fabric. Painfully boring photos. Scribblings on photos and items which attempt to infuse meaning into one night stands and her brief relationships with men.
She runs an Etsy page which peddles a bunch of predictable, overpriced tripe for disaffected young women. Patches of crying eyes. Pins that say “feminist” and “misandry”, along with crude, overpriced trinkets that you could find at any thrift store. There is also a collection of hideous knit caps and cowls.
It is easy to picture Bottos sitting in a coffee shop morosely knitting accessories suitable for a dying grandmother. She pauses to update her blogs on her expensive apple laptop presumably furnished by her long suffering, yet well-to-do parents, who also happen to be footing the bill for her pretentious art school education. I can only imagine their tremendous guilt and shame for nurturing their little daughter’s dreams of artistic fame by praising her self-centered twaddle. If they could fast-forward into the now I’m sure they would have thought twice about flushing hundreds of thousands of their hard earned Benjamins down the loo just so their daughter could knit and scribble and plaster her face all over the internet.

Self-hatred is always so sad, all the hatred generated by others at her activities just gets spoiled and has to be thrown out, or turned into a Portlandia sketch. People like this are never found hating themselves someplace where it would actually be useful, like Ben Ghazi or wherever Zsa Zsa Gabor shops.

“inside source” being “total guesswork” since there’s actually no way to KNOW who sends an anonymous message on Tumblr unless you are the anonymous sender. So…really…in this supposition that Lindsay sent these herself, she’d have to be the “inside source.” Or maybe the inside source is one of the actual hateful people that actually send these kinds of messages to girls and guys all across Tumblr every day to just continue being hateful.

Not particularly engaging reporting, it quickly moves from an assertion backed with little evidence to nearly glorifying the whole point of the “artists” subject through the reporting.
I’d have approached things more factually and if the substance to continue the article began to fizzle out continue finding credible sources or abandon the article. As an outside observer, it also looks unprofessional to defend your article. Let it stand for itself.
