(World) – The Platinum K-9 brand of dog food has been recalled after large quantities of the hallucinogenic drug LSD was found in products on supermarket shelves.
Authorities are still not sure how the dog food became contaminated but say they are in communication with the FBI and intend to launch a full investigation into the matter.
The Sanchez family claim their Boston Terrier, Lucy, began acting particularly odd after her nightly meal.
“Lucy started howling and barking at things that weren’t there. One minute she seemed happy and okay, the next minute she was biting my husband’s shins and making noises like I’ve never heard a dog make before… Gurgling noises… We had no idea what was going on… It was terrifying. We wondered if she had gotten rabies somehow… Later that night she collapsed dead at our feet… It was so traumatic. ”
Sanchez and CO are suing the Platinum K-9 brand after an autopsy revealed LSD in their dog’s system.
“We took her body to the vet for an autopsy and found that Lucy had died from a stress induced heart attack. The vet also found trace amounts of LSD… My family doesn’t do drugs, so how did it get in there? ”
A rash of these poisonings have spread throughout the Midwest and consumers are asked to return any Platinum K-9 items to their local grocery stores for a full refund.
National Report contacted Platinum K-9 CEO Earl Hemshire for a statement.
“The Platinum K-9 family sincerely apologizes to any families who have been hurt by our brand of premium dog food. We at no point intentionally added any ingredients that we thought would harm our customer’s animals. We have recalled all Platinum K-9 products from the store shelves until we can be sure all the contaminated food has been destroyed. We hope to make things right with our customers by issuing buy one get one free coupons to anyone who can send in proofs of purchase along with their pet’s autopsy report showing that the animal fell ill because of our brand of dog food.”
