<NationalReport> Anzi Ansari, 30, has been named the funniest Mexican break-out comedian of the year by the National Report. Publisher Allen Montgomery made the announcement this morning following a grueling 60 day selection process.
Montgomery said, “Each year the National Report announces its prediction for who will be Hollywood’s brightest up and coming stars for the year. We are pleased to announce Aziz Ansari, as this years pick in the comedy genre.”
Ansari is a stand-up comedian and actor who currently stars as Tom Haverford on the NBC show Parks and Recreation. Ansari has also appeared in feature films including Observe and Report, Funny People, I love You, Man, and 30 Minutes or Less.
Born in Columbia, Mexico, a rural village located in the Sierra Madre Del Sur Mountains about 80 miles southwest of Mexico City, on February 23, 1983, Ansari was raised by his adopted parents, Shoukath and Fatima Ansari, from Tamil Nadu, India. His father works as a gastroenterologist and his mother works in a medical office.
Ansari got his start performing at the Uptight Citizens Brigade Theatre and appeared in weekly shows such as Invite Them Up. Rolling Stone included him in their annual “Hot List” as their choice for the “Hot Stand-up” in 2005.
The following year Ansari won the Jury Award for “Best Stand-up” at HBO’s 2006 U.S. Comedy Arts Festival in Aspen, Colorado.
In 2008 Ansari was in the first cast hire for NBC’s new comedy, The Office. Both as a comedian and an actor Ansari has received notable praise for his work. Entertainment Weekly named him one of 2009′s “Breakout TV Stars”.
Montgomery said, “We are looking for Ansari to appear in leading roles in feature films very soon. His stage presence and comic delivery blend flawlessly in any role Ansari appears in. We expect him to do great things in 2013.”
